I think I'll still do the triangles in 'grab bag' fashion.

I decided to use yellow as the center block, G-7. That means the four corner blocks, A-1 &13 and M-1 & 13 will also be in yellow!

I'm doing a triangle block after every 6 or so blocks that I get done. So, I decided to go ahead and cut out the first 6 blocks and triangle.

M-2, Duff's Bluff in Orange.
J-3, Rick's Volleyball Net in Green.
C-12, Family Reunion in Purple.
F-8, Church Window in Blue.
A-6, Uncle Homer in Green.
B-9, Tinker Toy in Green.
TR-2, in Pink!Play_unithttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09853333953858826580noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5738259456057230273.post-12934655229853098552011-02-14T02:42:00.004-05:002011-02-15T03:19:42.378-05:00English Paper piecingSo, Ive been trying to get started on my Baby Jane. I finally decided that I am going to have to do it the English paper piecing method.
It will be alot more work, but it will travel well.
I am using freezer paper for the paper pieces and I am cutting out 4 blocks at a time. I then am placing each block in its own quart sized zippie bag with a copy of what the block is supposed to look like.
I can place all these in a gallon sized zippie bag with needle, thread, and scissors.

I tried to just do regular handpiecing. I sucked at it. My seams were all wonky. My corners didn't match. It looked terrible!

So the first 4 blocks are M2 - Duff's Bluff, J3 - Rick's Volleyball, C12 - Family Reunion, and F8 - Church Window.

When I get my first 'kit' together, I will start posting pictures.Play_unithttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09853333953858826580noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5738259456057230273.post-80419989059536569892011-02-14T02:34:00.004-05:002011-02-15T02:05:36.646-05:00NYE Mystery quilt pt 2

I have gotten the 9 blocks pieced.
I decided I wanted to use the dinosaur print for the borders and maybe the back. But I might do the back in the green plaid like I had previously planned. I thought about doing this with dinosaur sashing but, I decided not to do sashing between the blocks.
So, I had to go get some more of the dinosaur fabric. I bought the LAST five yards!

Play_unithttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09853333953858826580noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5738259456057230273.post-14895072111810526882011-01-09T02:15:00.000-05:002011-01-09T02:24:41.370-05:00NYE Mystery QuiltI finally got the NYE Mystery Quilt I'm doing cut out. Yes, I'm behind. I was so busy the last 2 weeks, I just today had time to do this much. I can't wait to get started sewing!
I am making it crib sized and already have it spoken for.
The focus fabric is dinosaurs on a red background. Fabric 1, the "Pop", is a dotmatrix pattern in blue/ green/ black. Fabric 2 is background fabric in a light/ med green with tiny stars tone on tone. Fabric 3 is the medium. It is a medium greenish blue all over tone on tone pattern. I've a green plaid for the back and am considering the star print for the borders, if it works. I will have to wait and see what happens.Play_unithttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09853333953858826580noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5738259456057230273.post-45734940281150291732011-01-02T22:06:00.001-05:002011-02-14T03:57:49.358-05:00Block M-2This block is called "Duff's Bluff".
I am doing it in a light blue and white.
As of right this minute, I am planning on hand piecing the blocks in this quilt. I will more than likely join thee blocks by machine. It will be my first handpieced quilt.
I figure the pieces are small enough so it will be easier.

My sewing machines are a Brother 5600 portable and a 1954 Singer console.Play_unithttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09853333953858826580noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5738259456057230273.post-78338583295888594422011-01-01T18:23:00.001-05:002011-02-14T03:58:13.674-05:00Dear Baby JaneI'm starting a Baby Jane. It will be completly from stash/ scraps. There will be no rhyme or reason to the fabrics in each block. I will use white muslin for the backgrounds but, even that will be from stash and scraps. I will eventually need to buy more muslin, so it will be a real scrappy quilt.

Blocks will be picked randomly by asking my DH to pick a letter and then a number. I hope this way to get a good mix of easy and hard blocks. Every 6th block will be a border triangle.

My Dh's first block choice is M-2.Play_unithttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09853333953858826580noreply@blogger.com0
